A Bespoke Dublin Home Spotlight
Much like many newly empty nesters, our latest clients sought a change of pace when they approached our team looking for a forever home. Their vision? Lush green surroundings and walkability. When a lot opened up in Historic Dublin only a stone’s throw away from one of the couple’s favorite restaurants, Tucci’s, it was kismet.
“We stumbled upon the lot during Covid lockdown. We had been considering a change and all the pieces just fell into place,” said our new homeowner. “Coming from Old Worthington, it was imperative to us to move to a community with access to the library, restaurants and community events and now we have an abundance of choices.”
The homesite wasn’t just located in one of Columbus’s most pedestrian-friendly and green neighborhoods, it also radiated charm and character that perfectly matched our clients’ classic taste – very good taste we might add.
“We wanted the aesthetic of our home to look like it wasn’t built yesterday. It was very important to us that our new build fit in with the existing neighborhood and exude some old-world charm that we see everywhere in Historic Dublin.”
At Epic, we pride ourselves on crafting project teams tailored to fit each of our client’s unique design style and personality and giving everyone who works with us the opportunity to be as involved in the design and build process as they desire.
“It was refreshing that Epic encouraged us to stick to our vision. Our style mixes the old with the new and Epic’s attention to detail of the classic architecture brought our vision and home to life.”
On this project, our homeowners had a strong eye for design and a five-star Pinterest board, so all they needed was a team to execute – and that’s just what we did. Explore some of our favorite features of this Dublin gem below.
1. Kitchen Hood
Considering our client’s tall height and desire for an alcove -style kitchen hood, we knew that we had to recruit a highly skilled team to execute a show stopping and functional result.
It was designer Kelly Scott who connected our team to the very talented Tom Jacob with Columbus Range Hood, who was able to craft and plaster the custom structure that seamlessly encloses the state-of-the-art range hood and Wolf range. All appliances, including the Cove dishwasher and Sub-Zero refrigerator were supplied by Tisdel through Custom Distributors.
2. Millwork and Cabinetry
For those that hear the word “traditional” and get flashbacks to the days of orange or honey oak, we’re here to put your mind at ease. With a bit of color and warm tones, a traditional design style can look classy and polished without feeling old-fashioned. Heather Wilcox with The Wall Architect helped design the wainscoting throughout this home as well as in the library.
Two of the most standout features of this home are its detailed millwork and bold color choices, especially seen in the strategic mixing of cabinet colors. Our homeowner carefully curated all the colors used and proved that your cabinets do NOT need to be the same color throughout different spaces! Working with The Cabinet Shop and their NewHaven custom cabinetry line, along with Epic’s talented trim carpenter, provided the skill set needed to create this elevated, polished look.
3. Kitchen Scullery
Of all rising home design trends, the addition of kitchen sculleries tops the charts. Not only can sculleries be beautiful in design, but they can also make for a less messy kitchen, add additional storage and keep laundry close at hand.
Our homeowners knew a place to do laundry off the kitchen was a must but wanted to customize it to better fit their daily needs – including a space for their pup. And so, we installed a reclaimed door the homeowner sourced as a pocket door leading to the laundry room with an extra sink right off the kitchen. We also added a walk-in pantry, cleverly concealed behind a cabinet door that matches the built in Sub-Zero refrigerator, for discreet yet practical storage.
4. Gallery Wall
Never underestimate the power of subtle, personal touches in a home. An easy way to add deeper meaning to a home is through photography and art, but what sets this couple’s gallery wall apart is that it features their own collection gathered over the years, with a focal point being an original drawing by one of the homeowners. And to top it off, the ornate frames add a touch of elegance that help draw your eye down the hall as you enter their home.
5. Basement Golf Simulator
As a golf lover, one of our homeowners had his heart set on bringing the greens into the basement. But what’s a home golf game without space for friends? That’s why the design includes an open, dedicated golf room that also incorporates an entertainment center and mini bar, ensuring the full country club experience right at home.
“We are beyond thrilled with the end result. The craftsmanship is impeccable. You can literally see the careful attention to detail in every aspect of the home.”
Though we love all our projects, this Dublin home holds a special place in our hearts. From the key features like secret rooms and entertainment centers to the finer details like wallpaper patterns and millwork, this home is as custom as they come. It serves as a great example that traditional design does not have to be boring or impractical – but captivating and functional.
“Our experience working with Epic was seamless. Due to Covid and some unforeseen circumstances, the execution of our home took longer than normal. Epic stayed the course without complaint and created a home that we truly cherish. It’s not every day you find a builder who is equally if not more invested in such a personal endeavor. They really went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with the outcome.”
It’s not often we collaborate with homeowners that have such an incredible eye for design and the intent for creating such an elevated look… one that not only speaks such volumes about their personal style, but that stimulates creativity in everyone who sees it!
