At Epic, one of our favorite moments in any custom home build or renovation is the big reveal, when our clients finally get to see their vision come to life. It’s the culmination of creativity, craftsmanship, and collaboration, and yes, we get just as excited as our clients!
But before that, there’s one essential step that ensures everything is exactly how it should be – the construction punch list.
What is a construction punch list?
Consider the construction punch list as a final quality control checklist used near the end of a home build or renovation. It’s used to identify any tasks—big or small—that need to be completed before the project is officially considered a success.
The best builders will also begin preparing the punch list as they move through the project. Many tasks cannot be checked off until other items in the normal line of construction are finalized, and keeping those well-documented is what prevents things from falling through the cracks.
As the project nears completion, the architect, interior designer, and the Epic team will go through the home to make sure every detail is according to plan. While we strive for perfection throughout every step of the project, this walkthrough gives us a chance to review any remaining items or minor flaws, like fixture adjustments, paint touch-ups, or small tweaks to ductwork.
However, it’s important to clarify that the purpose of a well-crafted punch list isn’t just to highlight issues, it’s used to create clarity for everyone involved on what final touches need done before we can call the project a success, typically including:
- A clear description of the item needing finalized
- Annotated images (because a picture really is worth a thousand words)
- Room or location
- Who’s responsible for the item
- A target completion date
Every task on the punch list is then assigned, scheduled, and resolved—because we don’t consider a project finished until everything meets our Epic standards.
Once all tasks on the punch list are checked off, we’re ready for our favorite part: the big reveal! At this time, we’re confident everything has been polished and is as close to perfection as possible, and the homeowner, contractor, and EPIC team come together for the final walkthrough.
Ultimately, the punch list is not a required part of the construction process, but it is a part of the Epic Group Ohio process. It’s how we cross our t’s and dot our i’s to ensure we’re delivering a home that’s not just finished – but fabulous.
Whether you’re starting from scratch or renovating your forever home, Epic is here to guide you through every step with exceptional service, transparency, and a personal touch.
