Infusing Self-Care Spaces Into Your Home Design

It’s fair to say that life can be chaotic at times! Now more than ever, the importance of self-care and taking time for your own physical and mental health is understood and embraced. So, what better way to practice self-care than to infuse it into the very design of your home?

At Epic, we are committed to making every home we build or renovate beautiful, functional, and comfortable. Your home is your oasis and should be designed to cater to your needs and those little things that make all the difference to you and your family’s well-being.

We have a few design tips to infuse your living spaces with the tranquility you deserve.

Discover what relaxes you

The first step in practicing self-care in your home is establishing what calms you and makes you feel at ease. Perhaps it’s cooking, reading, exercising, or simply sitting in a quiet room without distractions. All of these (and so much more) are possible in your home. Whether it’s a DIY project or a collaboration with your home design professionals, a self-care space perfectly suited for you is within reach.

Dedicate a space to self-care

The next step in formalizing your self-care space is to discover which room/area/nook is going to be designated for your relaxation. If cooking brings you joy, a customized kitchen or pantry may be your retreat. Book lovers might dream of a home library with a cozy reading nook. For those seeking rejuvenation, an in-home sauna could be the perfect refuge. The choice depends on what brings you solace.

The power of lighting

The lighting in an area can create a mood and atmosphere without you even realizing. While bright fluorescent lights are ideal for modern spaces, an excess can strain your eyes. Consider softer, warmer lighting in your safe spaces to soothe your senses and balance your mood.

Self-care home design inspiration

Now, let’s get to the fun part. Here are some of our favorite recent self-care spaces in homes.

Basement Fitness Room with Indoor Sauna

This recent basement reno with a fitness floor and indoor sauna (with color-changing lights) is a prime example of creating a self-care space. With this space, spa days and exercise are just steps away! (Plus: you don’t have to step outside during the winter months.)

Of course, we couldn’t do it without our vendor partners:

  • Custom Finnleo Sauna from All Seasons Spas in Hilliard, a collaborative design by the homeowner and our designers at Epic. Special shoutout to Mike Blomstran of All Seasons for his fantastic work.

In-home Library

Every book lover’s dream is to have an in-home library with room for as much reading material they can think of. Dive into this gorgeous library with an accompanying reading nook from one of our recent custom home builds.

Kitchen with Scullery

Passionate home cooks find warmth and comfort in the kitchen. That is why a dream, custom kitchen is a must-have for them. Plus, add in a scullery, walk-in pantry, or washroom, and the space is all yours.

Crafting your haven is not just an investment in your home but an investment in your well-being. Let these design tips guide you toward a home that nurtures, rejuvenates, and reflects the essence of self-care. Have a self-care project in mind? Let’s chat.
