Modern living room renovation in a historic Victorian Village Columbus home, featuring a see-through fireplace, leather chairs, bold wall art, and updated staircase design.

Blending History and Modern Design in a Victorian Village Home Renovation

Don and Scott first came to Epic in 2014, thinking they might DIY a kitchen renovation. A surprise bathroom leak fast-tracked that plan, and kicked off a renovation journey that’s grown over time, one thoughtful update at a time. The rest, you might say, is epic history …

Their most recent project focused on bringing modern functionality to the home (built in 1895!) with unique, personal touches:

  • A once-unused front room now shines thanks to a see-through fireplace with color-changing lights
  • A former closet-turned-bar now houses their collection of spirits from their global travels
  • And their staircase got a safety refresh, modernized and brought up to code, without losing its vintage charm

This project is a perfect reminder that the best renovations happen in layers, and that great design is just as much about how you live in a space as how it looks.

Catch up on the project.
